Cortland girls fall in regular-season finale

 

 

 

The Cortland High volleyball team closed out its regular season Thursday night with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-20 OHSL Freedom/Liberty Division loss to visiting Tully.
The Purple Tigers finished 13-5 in both league play and overall, good for third behind Tully (17-1, 19-1) and Chittenango (16-2 league and overall). They lost at Chittenango on Tuesday night.
“We are going to move on from these past two losses and focus on sectionals,” CHS coach Cheri Olson said. We have a good chance this year if we play to our potential.”
The seeding meeting will take place Sunday afternoon.
Senior outside hitter Lyuda Levitskaya had 15 digs, three kills and an ace for CHS Thursday while senior setter Danielle Lynch had 13 assists, seven digs, an ace and a kill, sophomore libero/outside hitter Kristin Bush 13 digs and an ace, senior setter Shelina Carrion 10 digs and two aces and senior outside hitter Samantha Daniels six digs.
Freshman setter Grace Chaffee had 25 assists, two digs and a kill for the black Knights, complemented by senior outside hitter Jenna Bailey with nine digs, eight kills and an ace and junior middle hitter Maureen Whitney with nine kills, four digs, an ace and an assist.
The Cortland JVs finished the season 5-13 in the league and overall after a 25-13, 22-25, 25-12 loss to Tully. Sophomore right side Cassandra Marks had six digs for the winners while freshman middle hitter Bella Rosas, freshman outside hitter Natalie Gier and freshman middle hitter Antonia Murray each had a block.
