City police Thursday arrested two out of three people believed to be responsible for a string of burglaries including one at the Ramada Inn on River Street earlier that day and a car theft that occurred earlier in the week.
Danielle N. Garrow, 32, of79 Central Ave., Cortland was arrested on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. after police found her to be in possession of stolen property in a room at the Ramada Inn on River Street.
Another patron at the hotel had called police after his property was stolen from the hotel lobby.
He suspected Garrow and a third suspect, an unknown man Garrow was staying with at the hotel, had taken his property, which he confirmed when he knocked on Garrow’s door and saw the property in her room, according to city police Lt. Richard Troyer.
Garrow and the man fled from the hotel, but Garrow was apprehended in the area of River Street, according to Troyer. That man has not yet been found, according to police this morning.
City police also arrested Georgetown resident Michael Dishaw Thursday after he was stopped for driving a stolen vehicle on Port Watson Street, said Troyer. Dishaw was found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine, a stolen laptop computer and a loaded firearm, said Troyer. The vehicle Dishaw was driving was reported stolen from a residence on Elm Street on Monday.
Dishaw had also rented the room that Garrow and the unidentified suspect were occupying at the Ramada Inn, said Troyer.
Dishaw, 25, of 3161 Ridge Road, Georgetown, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies; petit larceny, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, all misdemeanors; and driving without a license, a violation.
Dishaw was sent to County Jail where he is being held on bail of $100,000 cash or $250,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear today in City Court. Garrow is scheduled to appear April 15 in City Court.
Police recovered a large quantity of stolen property after a resident of Pine Street in Cortland, who Dishaw asked to store the items, brought them to the police because he did not want them in his possession, according to Troyer. These items include computers, video game consoles, Mp3 players, speakers, a pellet gun, jewelry, a guitar, an amplifier, a movie projector, miscellaneous construction tools, an Army helmet, suitcases and an RCA tablet computer.
Anyone who believes they have been a victim of burglary is asked to contact Troyer at 607-758-8307.
