OHSL boys lacrosse: CHS continues scoring spree

Cortland High boys have now reeled off back-to-back lacrosse victories in high-scoring fashion after handling visiting Oswego with 16-6 ease on Saturday morning on Moisechik Field.
Fresh from a 20-goal outburst in a romp past Chittenango, the Purple Tigers continued scoring in bunches — with 10 of those goals scored against Oswego coming in the second quarter alone — while improving to 4-3 in the OHSL Freedom Division and 4-6 overall.
The Purple Tigers led 15-2 by the time halftime arrived and coasted to the finish line from there.
“This was a good team victory for us,” noted CHS coach Matt Blaich after dominating the Buccaneers, helped out by Connor Caughey and Nate Kinsey capturing 14 faceoffs.
“We played with a different speed and we really played unselfish lacrosse in the first half, with 13 of the goals assisted,” added Blaich. “Connor and Nate really controlled the faceoff position for us today. They really have done a good job all year there.”
Cortland’s scoring was also spread around, with senior Matt May leading the way with four goals to go along with two assists. Junior Chris Dovi added three goals and two assists,while Anthony Ricottilli had a team-high four assists and Mike May three.
Ricottilli, Caughey and Joe Piedigrossi all tallied twice, Mike May, Trae Libbey and sophomore Nate McCormick also with goals. Soph goalie Cameron Aldrich went the distance for the winners and collected 15 saves.
Trey Clark was the best offensive weapon for the Buccaneers (1-4 Freedom Division 2-7 overall), finishing with a three-goal hat trick and an assist.
“We have really spread out the scoring with numerous guys scoring,” said Coach Blaich, which is good news heading into today’s 5:30 p.m. non-league hosting of Onondaga. “Our defense played as best as we have all year in the first half . We need to continue to get better every day.”
CORTLAND JVs were beaten 17-4 by Jamesville-DeWitt, the Red Rams cruising after securing a 5-0 first quarter lead. Owen Lang had a goal and an assist for the Purple Tigers, who also got goals from Pat Hartnett, Rory Hines and Izeah Williams. Goalie Ben Pallone made a dozen saves in the CHS crease.
