Lachall, Lenhart receive top conference plaudits

SUNY Cortland sophomore Jamie Lachall was named the SUNY Athletic Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Year and Julie Lenhart has been honored as the Sandra Hollander Coach of the Year in a vote of the league’s coaches.
Lachall, who shared Pitcher of the Year honors with Geneseo’s Corrin Spallone, is one of five Cortland players to earn all-conference recognition.
Lachall, sophomore outfielder Niki Barbato and junior outfielder Diane Cork were first-team All-SUNYAC, while sophomore first baseman Mikayla Shade and senior pitcher Sarah Salamone were second-team honorees.
Lachall posted a 5-0 record, 1.77 ERA and three saves in 10 SUNYAC regular-season appearances, four as a starter. She struck out 21 batters and walked only six in 35 and two thirds innings.
Barbato, a transfer to Cortland this season from Adelphi, hit .453 with three homers, eight doubles, 19 RBI, six walks and 12 runs scored in 18 league games. Cork, a repeat selection to the All-SUNYAC first team, batted .389 with four homers, five doubles, two triples, 19 RBI, 11 walks and 22 runs scored in 18 league games. She also stole five bases.
Lenhart was named Coach of the Year for the fifth time overall and first since 2010. She led Cortland to a 16-2 SUNYAC record and both the league’s regular-season and tournament titles. In her 21 years at Cortland, Lenhart’s teams have won nine SUNYAC titles.
FREDONIA SHORTSTOP Alyssa Morgan out of Homer Central was a second team choice. She batted .390 with a team-high 41 hits and 20 runs scored, and also topped the Blue Devils with 12 multiple-hit games.
